Having a dentist you can trust can make a stressful situation feel much more manageable, so if you’re suffering from a dental emergency, it’s important to know that we’re here to help you and your loved ones!
At Norma Vazquez, DDS, we leave openings in our daily schedule for emergencies, so if you’re in pain or need immediate care, we’ll do everything possible to alleviate your discomfort and restore your oral health.
Knowing What to Do If You Knock Out a Tooth
We treat all types of dental emergencies, including severe toothaches, broken or cracked teeth, lost fillings or other restorations, and dental infections.
However, if you have a knocked-out tooth, time is critical. The sooner you can get to our dental office, the better chance we have of saving your natural tooth.
The American Association of Endodontists urges you to follow the “golden hour” rule and seek treatment within 30 to 60 minutes. Acting quickly can keep the living cells on your tooth’s roots from drying out and dying, so call our office right away!
Here’s what you should do if your tooth gets knocked out:
- First, without touching your tooth’s roots, pick up your tooth and gently rinse it with cool water. It’s important not to use soap or scrub your tooth, as this can damage the living cells.
- If possible, try to reinsert your tooth into its socket. Then, gently bite down on a piece of gauze to hold it in place.
- If you’re unable to put your tooth back in its socket, the next best thing is to store it inside your cheek or in a glass of milk. Keeping it moist makes it more feasible for us to reinsert it when you reach our office.
